BioCote - Proven to reduce Bacteria levels by over 95% in NHS ward at Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham [28 September 2007]
 |
The first ever study to investigate the effectiveness of BioCote at reducing levels of bacteria in a working environment has published its initial findings. The environmental trial compares two out-patient wards in the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, one at Heartlands Hospital, containing furniture and equipment with BioCote anti-microbial protection and one containing standard, untreated items.
Results from the trial showed that:
- BioCote reduced total bacteria by 95.8% compared to the non-BioCote protected ward.
- Level of bacteria on BioCote protected furniture reduced by 92.6%.
- As a consequence, non-BioCote protected furniture in the BioCote protected ward had a 43.5% reduction in the level of bacteria on their surfaces.
Matthew Harte, Managing Director at BioCote Ltd comments, "We believe that this intial study in conjunction with the NHS helps to justify the use of BioCote protected products. These initial findings indicate that the NHS should be increasing their use of BioCote protected products to help support hygiene practices within healthcare environments, leading to reduced HCAI rates.".

Architectural ironmongery specification awards 2006/2007 [15 June 2007]
 |
| National Assembly of Wales, Cardiff |
Allgood enjoyed great success on four of the projects entered into the 2006/07 GAI/Riba Specification Awards.
Public Building Category:
• WINNER – National Assembly of Wales, Cardiff – Richard Rogers Partnership.
What the judges thought:
“Stainless steel throughout ties in excellently with the architecture. Superb consistency, specification works well in all respects. Excellent tri-lingual signage. Excellent DDA compliance, with proper maintenance we see no reason why the ironmongery should not last 100 years, to match the design life of the building.”
• COMMENDATION – The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh – RMJM Architects.
What the judges thought:
“Very high quality finished doors and panels. Stainless steel door furniture and pull handles fitted at 55 degrees to compliment the glazed panels. Technical problems with sizes of the doors have been met. Very large doors are mounted on pivots with edge roller to SSS run, fitted flush to the floor. Some specialist hinges and fittings are bespoke and custom made. Concealed closers are used in public areas to allow the aesthetic value of the doors to show.”
• HIGHLY COMMENDED – His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen – Aberdeen City Council Architects Department.
What the judges thought:
“Skilful use of ironmongery shows a well thought out scheme that is extremely well put together. Appropriate period ironmongery to the theatre itself, sits very well with the more business-like and robust materials used “backstage”. Each defines their areas well and sits comfortably together. Good use of balustrades and signage. An extremely difficult project involving integration of old and new, handled skilfully.”
Renovations Category
• COMMENDATION – Hamilton Town House, Hamilton – Coltart Early Architects.
What the judges thought:
“Door furniture is stylish and compliments the projects well co-ordinated specification that has been overseen by Historic Scotland and the architect. Good signage features on all routes. Care has been taken to preserve the character of the building while maintaining ease of use and a link of the past. Floor springs with electromagnets are used for freedom of movement and creating space.”

New Bronze Solution from Allgood [19 March 2007]
 |
On Monday 19th March 2007 Allgood launched the newest addition to the Allgood range; Bronze Solution.Characterised by its earthy colouring. Bronze meets the increasing desire for an alternative finish to stainless steel.
From the moment the hardware is subjected to regular use, a natural patina is formed and the aging process of the material occurs, creating the personality of Bronze. Our Bronze is made up of a copper-tin alloy containing 92% copper and 8% tin. Whereas pure copper is comparatively soft, the tin in bronze lends it great strength and hardness. This composition therefore provides excellent resistance to wear and corrosion.
Bronze is ideal for renovation and refurbishment projects providing a charming reminder of the past. Furthermore, copper alloys provide better anti-microbial properties than brass and stainless steel, making Bronze ideal for healthcare projects where hygiene is paramount.
For those products that are not available in Bronze, Allgood provides a powder coated finish to match. Electrostatically applied and oven cured, the powder satisfies BS6496 and BS3900 requirements. Resistant to heat, acid and abrasion, the finish is unaffected by ultra-violet light and suitable for use in all climatic conditions.
Incorporated within this range are the following items:
- lever handles
- pull handles
- window handles
- hinges
- door closers
- locks and cylinders
- accessories
By offering a consistent finish across all items, we give you the confidence to specify a co-ordinated, Bronze solution for all of your ironmongery.
